Dormition of the Mother of God
The Eastern Catholic Church in Richmond is a unique, multi-ethnic parish that serves as a vibrant bridge between the ancient Byzantine tradition and the diverse, modern community of the Lower Mainland. Unlike many traditional ethnic parishes, it intentionally uses English as its primary liturgical language to remain accessible to all, while providing textual translations in Chinese, Tagalog, Spanish, and other languages to welcome seekers from every background. Under the guidance of the Jesuit Fathers, the community emphasizes a "friendly, open neighborhood" atmosphere where the mystical beauty of Eastern chants, icons, and incense is paired with a strong commitment to spiritual education and radical hospitality.
